| About Minhang－Location, Area and Population |
Minhang District is situated at the center of southeast Shanghai. The district links with Pudong New Area, Xuhui District, Changning District, Jiading District, Songjiang District, Qingpu District, Fengxian District, Hongqiao Economic & Technological Development Zone and Caohejing Hi-tech Park. Minhang Economic & Technological Development Zone and Hongqiao International Airport are located in Minhang. Thanks to its advantageous geographic location, Minhang District has become a transportation pivot in Shanghai. Huangpu River goes through the district from south to north and divides the whole district into two parts – Pudong and Puxi Area. Pujiang Town, lying on the east bank of Huangpu River, is one of the “1 city and 9 towns” which will enjoy priority in Shanghai’s city construction in the new century.
The district is about 31.5 km from east to west and 30 km from north to south with an area of 371.7km2 and a population of 1.85 million. The district is composed of 9 towns and 3 subdistricts. In the district, there are 2 state level economic& technological development zones, 2 state level industrial bases and 3 municipal level industrial zones.
Minhang district enjoys rapid economic development, mature urban functions, developed social undertakings and beautiful ecological environment. The district has become one of the most competitive areas for investors, which enables it to win the honorary titles like “the Top 20 Districts/Counties for Best Investment Environment in China” and “the Best City for Investment by Multinational Corporations”. | Comprehensive Economic Strength |
The economy of Minhang District has made rapid progress during the 10th Five-Year. In 2005, the district achieved 46.1 billion Yuan of value added output, which shows an increase of 1.6 times than that of the end of 9th Five-Year. The average annual growth rate of it was 20.8%. The total financial revenue in 2005 reached 19.5 billion Yuan, increased by 3.6 times. The average annual growth rate of it was 35.8%. The district part of financial revenue has increased by 2.9 times, of which the average annual growth rate was 31.3%. In 2005, the total volume of retail sales of consumer goods came to 16.1 billion Yuan, which doubles the figure of the end of 9th Five-Year. The saving deposit of urban and rural residents topped 49.8 billion Yuan last year, increased by 2.2 times. The average annual salary income of workers and staff has increased by 85%, of which the average annual growth rate was 12.9% The average annual income of peasants has increased by 66%, of which the average annual growth rate was 10.7%. The comprehensive economic strength of Minhang District comes out on top among all the counties and districts in Shanghai.
In the course of economic construction, the district government attaches equal importance to the second and third industry while adjusting and optimizing the first industry continuously. In 2005, of the total volume of value added output in Minhang District, the first industry accounts for 0.6%, the second and third industry cover 58.9% and 40.5% respectively. |

| Investment attraction is a major focus in the economic construction of Minhang District. During the 10th Five-Year, the district has absorbed a total contracted foreign capital of 6.9 billion USD with a total paid-up capital of 3.68 billion USD. 62 companies listed in Global 500 have invested in our district, such as Itochu, Marubeni, Panasonic Toshiba, Pioneer, Daikin, Suntory, Intel, Emerson and Rodia etc.,. The amount of contracted capital has exceeded 1.2 billion USD for 5 consecutive years. In 2005, the total sales of industrial products of the foreign invested companies reached 110.5 billion Yuan, contributing to 73.5% of the total of the district. The taxation and industrial profit of foreign invested enterprises reached 8.55 billion Yuan and 3.2 billion Yuan respectively. The total export amount of the district in 2005 was about 7.9 billion USD. More than 80 types of goods covering 22 categories are sold to 157 countries and regions in the world. |
